Awake Sleeper…

Filed under: Morning Star — Bruce @ 9:24 am

Awake sleeper, see this dawning,
the original Rule come home from afar ,
souls afire, bright their life,
shining through Morning Star .

Awake sleeper! It is time to awaken. It is time for fervor seeking the things of God rather than of the earth. The times are short until God will intervene in human history. Blessed are those who are prepared for these times.

The original Rule of the Third Order of St. Francis, Memoriale Propositi, ideally should be lived in its fullness by all secular people. Or some equivalent and demanding spiritually committed lifestyle. The Rule of 1221, Memoriale Propositi, is the lifestyle of the Brothers and Sisters of Penance of St. Francis (BSP) for those who profess to it. It is the basis of the entire Stella Matutina, that is, Morning Star, movement which began in the Secular Franciscan Order and has now become the way of life of the BSP outside of that Order.

Many are those returning to the disciplines of the First Rule of the Third Order of St. Francis. In the BSP and other Associations today. Hopefully one day the Secular Franciscan Order will take it again as their way of life, for it is of their heritage. It is a bright and holy way of life. Very demanding, and very much ongoing. For those who profess to live it the disciplines of the Rule as regards prayer, fasting, abstinence, and simplicity of lifestyle become the way they live. The original Rule of the Third Order of St. Francis, which was lived for centuries, has come to life again in the BSP. A way to live, given to us by St. Francis, that calls us to live our commitment to our Faith to the full, and leads to heaven. Blessed be the Lord! Thank you for this gift!

Mary calls us…

Filed under: Morning Star — Bruce @ 1:43 pm

Among those called by her sweet voice ,
these she surely bade,
true Franciscans who hear her now,
having found the way he made.

Mary calls us all to follow her Son. She always does that. She always calls us to follow Jesus. Many misunderstand her call. She never seeks her own glory. Only the glory of God and our salvation. So,those who can accept this reality always respond to her call.

She is the advocate of all that is holy, and certainly of the mission and message of St. Francis. She supports all who seek to become Saints, and that was what St. Francis had in mind in giving us his Rules of life. That we should become Saints. The First Rule of the Third Order of St. Francis is the rule St. Francis gave us. The Rule of the Brothers and Sisters of Penance of St. Francis. The Rule on which the entire Stella Matutina movement has been based from day one.

Who told you times have changed?

Filed under: Morning Star — Bruce @ 9:43 am

Who has told you times have changed,
has my Son come again unknown,
neither call dead the words He said,
nor those His chosen have sown.

Why do people think they must change holy things! Paths set for us by Saints are altered by people who can hardly spell their names in times long after they lived. What possesses us to do that! The modern Rules of most Orders, lay Orders for sure, are not the Rules of life that were given by their originators! In some cases they were revised by committees even! No Committee has ever been canonized! Condemned perhaps! So, has Jesus spoken to them? Did He come again and ask for this to be done? Did the Church Fathers ask for it? Did the Pope request it? At least in such a case it would be justified and perhaps accepted. Who asked for it? That is the question.

By whose authority do we alter the writings and teachings and works of a Saint? By whose authority do we declare them dead. It is not a matter of just adding to them. Invariably they are abrogated when the Rules have been changed, which means canceled, and that is the current situation in most Third Orders today! Their founding Rules have been canceled. Eliminated completely. Gone! So, we lose what the Saint said or intended. In some Orders little knowledge of any kind about the original Rules that started the Order remains. It doesn’t remain because to the modern leaders of these Orders, which often exclude priests at the request of the governing laity. Many never have studied their roots or reference in any serious way to the original Rule of their Orders in teaching others. These things are just lost!

Would we do so with the Gospels of Our Dear Lord? If we won’t do it with His Words, and God help us if we begin to do that, why do we think we can do it with the teachings of a canonized Saint? They are Saints as selected by His Church which means that the Lord has spoken through those He has chosen to lead the Church to give us these people as examples of how to live. To change the Rule given us by these same Saints is the same as to alter the words of the Gospel. It should never be done!

There are in the end three sets of documents that guide Orders and Associations of the Faithful. Their Rule. Statutes, and Constitution. The Rule is that given by the Saint to guide the Faithful in a holy way of life. Such Rules should never be changed! They don’t need to be changed. Some of their beauty is how they were written in the times of the Saint. Statutes are the ways that the leaders of the Orders, Institutions and Associations have interpreted the Rule to be lived in the times at hand. The Constitutions are the tenets needed to manage the organizations infra-structure, policies, procedures, and leadership. Statutes, the way the Rule is lived, can be changed. They need to be changed to fit changing times. Constitutions can be changed. The Rules themselves, given to us by Saints, should never be altered!

Poverello’s toil sealed…

Filed under: Morning Star — Bruce @ 9:56 am

None before the Wounds ever bore,
save He who died for you,
Poverello’s toil sealed forever ,
don’t alter his vision, for it is true.

The Stigmata of St. Francis was the seal that He received from Christ for a life lived perfectly and totally for God. He tried to hide it in his humility. Now we all know it was given and his work and messages were confirmed before our physical eyes, and blessed by the Lord, in this miracle. That said, how dare we change one word of what St. Francis gave us! The Rule of 1221 is sacred as given! No one should have altered that Rule or abrogated it as has happened. God forgive us! St. Francis pray for us.

Since the Pope has blessed the change to the Pauline Rule for the Secular Franciscan Order, it is valid, and good even though not original. Therefore the original Rule of the Third Order of St. Francis, the Rule of 1221, Memoriale Propositi, should be returned to the honor it held for centuries and offered as ‘the original way’ of life given by St. Francis to all the world in his name, sealed by the Stigmagta of St. Francis, certainly within the Franciscan Orders themselves. In the absence of this change Memoriale Propositi has become and will remain the Rule of life of those in the private Association of the Brothers and Sisters of St. Francis, which is waiting peacefully for the Third Order of St. Francis to awaken and return to its original focus on what St. Francis himself gave us.

Hearts must be altered…!

Filed under: Morning Star — Bruce @ 11:29 am

Hearts must alter Her voice cries,
or your world will be no more,
for you my children have forgotten,
to do penance as before.

The times are very serious, but does anyone care? Messages have been given worldwide but is anyone listening? Is anyone even trying to follow the warnings from heaven, largely given by Our Lady but not only from her. We must change our ways! We must alter our hearts and become concerned about God and His will for us. What he wants from us and what we must do to obtain the salvation He offers us.

We have all just come through Lent, and into the joy of Easter. Have we refreshed our thinking any? We saw again what our Lord suffered. How he was humiliated, scourged, mocked, and made to carry a cross before a people who hated Him even though he had worked many wonders, signs, and miracles among this same people. Then he is nailed to a cross, and to the moment of His death mocked and ridiculed. At the end of His suffering, before He dies, he forgives us, and surrenders Himself to His father. With His death all things are made new. The gates of heaven are opened and death becomes a door to them. Did we listen?

If we don’t listen the messages say our world will never be the same. We will be chastised and no one knows what it will be. Might it be the end of the world? God knows: we don’t. It will be severe though. It will be less severe only if we do penance. We cannot stop the final coming chastisement according to Our Lady. We can mitigate the chastisements that precede it. There is before this stupid, blind world a wave of coming chastisements followed by a GREAT CHASTISEMENT we have been told. We have seen some already although they are NOT part of what Our Lady has foretold. They are preliminary warnings. The hurricanes, sunamis, earthquakes, famines, wars and other tragedies now upon us are PRELIMINARY to what is coming!

So, do not allow yourself to be lukewarm and indifferent to these times if you want to survive them and get to heaven.
God has the perfect right to be stern with us. We are His creatures. He is our creator! Like a painter where the paint runs he has the right to completely destroy the picture he has created and start over. Let us humbly approach God doing penance and being good. Beating our breasts with fasting and abstinence and good works, and asking forgiveness for our sins and guidance to do good for the love of this God who has given us everything and has the perfect right to take it all back! Now is the time to do penance! Now is the time to covert your heart to God and forget this world, which is passing away. Come now! Awaken, dear people of God! Time is short!

A wonderful way to begin to do penance was given to us by St. Francis in 1221 when he gave us the First Rule of the Third Order of St. Francis: Memoriale Propositi. The people of those times saw the great holiness of St. Francis and asked how they could become holy. He gave them this Rule, and it is being lived again in today’s world by the Brothers and Sisters of Penance of St. Francis and a few others. It is a holy lifestyle. Make it a real part of the way you live for God. Go to our web site at www.bspenance.org and join our Association. It costs nothing but a heart desiring to die to itself and live more for God and appease the Heart of Our Savior. Live this life given to us by a Saint under the direction of the Lord as your gift to God to help save the world and bring souls to God. Then you can feel the joy of knowing you are a servant of the Lord and helping others to save their souls. Wouldn’t you like that? God would. As St. Francis said: “Let us begin, for until now we have done nothing!”
